The 2014 Labrador Retriever Watercolor calendar is here!

2014 Labrador Retriever Watercolor CalendarThe hardest part of putting together this calendar each year is choosing from all the photo reference submissions I receive of so many happy, loved, handsome, pretty, sweet, goofy Labs and narrowing down to just painting thirteen watercolors to represent what we all love so much about the breed.
I want to thank everyone who enthusiastically shared their photos with me in hopes that their pup would be chosen for next year’s calendar. I think this year, I received submissions from just about every state, a few from Canada and even some from England and Spain.
Some of you have been inquiring when I would be letting folks know who will be in the calendar and today is the day!
I will not be posting the final watercolors here as some who collect my calendar don’t like to see the paintings until they turn the page to the new month next year. Thumbnails of the paintings are viewable in my shop where they are available for purchase.

This is a fun project that has challenged me creatively, forged new friendships and has helped raise funds to help Lab Rescue the past 3 years. This year a portion of each sale with be divided and donated to Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue and Save A Lab Rescue.

This year, all of the thirteen watercolors will be framed and displayed at Cask and Vine in Derry, New Hampshire for the month of October. This incredible place offers craft beers in rotation, a selection of small production  wine and delicious small plates in a fantastic environment. Owners Andy Day and Alana Wentworth ave invited me to display the calendar watercolors and I am thrilled to have a collection to exhibit. They are animal lovers and huge supporters of my work. I can’t wait!

“Flying Leap” wins Merit Award in “Great Outdoors” online Exhibit

molly-a-poole-flying-leap

SOLD

This small acrylic painting “Flying Leap” 6″x6″ acrylic on panel is part of Canine Art Guild’s online summer exhibit “The Great Outdoors” was awarded the Merit Award by juror Sharon Will. This exhibit features artwork by CAG Members that represent dogs engaged in an activity and connecting with our wonderful outdoor world.

I always appreciate feedback from a juror when I have received a judge’s award, but it isn’t always provided. Here is what Sharon Will the juror for this show had to say:
This dog jumping into the water just makes you smile. We can’t see his face, but we know there’s a big grin on it. The bold brush strokes and splash of the tail brings even more action and energy to the piece. This strong composition is successful by its simplified shapes and values, as well as having a dominate color temperature; warm with cool accents.

The Canine Art Guild was established in March of 2006. Consisting of fine canine artists from around the world, it is quickly becoming the place to find quality canine art on the web. The CAG is a unique association – made up of artists of all levels, seeking to legitimize art depicting canines, and to build a community for each other and the public.
